- Yes. You can identify fish from this page with no account and no download. The free result is the most likely species name and its category. The full report, with scientific name, habitat, size, diet, behavior, and look-alike species, is in the Fish Identifier app.
- How accurate is AI fish identification from a photo?
- It is a strong first guess, not a confirmed ID. Many species look alike, juveniles and colour phases can differ from the adults in field guides, and a photo cannot show fin ray or scale counts. Treat the result as a starting point and verify important identifications with a regional field guide or an ichthyologist. For catch limits or regulations, confirm the species with your local fisheries authority.
- What kind of photo works best?
- A clear side-on shot of the whole fish, fins spread and visible, in good light with as little glare from the water as possible. For a caught fish, lay it flat on a neutral surface and fill most of the frame with it. For live fish, wait for a moment when the body is broadside to the camera.
- Can it identify sharks, rays, and aquarium fish?
- Yes. Bony fish, sharks, rays, and skates, reef and aquarium fish, caught fish on a dock or measuring board, and mounted specimens are all in scope. Crabs, lobsters, octopus, jellyfish, whales, dolphins, and sea turtles are flagged as not a fish.
